Hyderabad: Welspun Foundation (WF), an umbrella entity for its India-based initiatives from the Welspun Group, a global conglomerate announced the launch of the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) Project for the farmers of Ranga Reddy District in Telangana.
Under the project, 5,033 farmers in 91 villages, a total cotton area of 14,214 acres, and other total crops area of 29,158 acres are covered. The initiative introduced in 2019 promotes sustainable farming practices to improve the livelihoods of cotton farmers in the region. The BCI project is designed to educate farmers on soil analysis test-based application of nutrients. The Foundation collects soil samples from the farmers every year, which are then used to provide information on the correct application of fertilizers and improve soil fertility.
As part of this year’s initiative, a total of 77 soil samples were collected from 38 villages and sent for analysis to the Rajendranagar Government Soil Testing Lab. The highest soil samples were taken from Chevella Taluq, with 50 samples from 24 villages. The soil testing activity has helped educate the farmers about the correct application of fertilizers and improve soil fertility.
